Before you start

Is it for you?The starter class in Alicante

You have never danced

That is what the Friday group is for: you start with the embrace, posture and the walk, from lesson one.

You are coming without a partner

We rotate partners and balance the roles: come on your own or with someone.

Whatever your age

Tango can be danced at any age: in class you progress at your own pace.

The programme

What will you learn in the starter class?

A flexible programme: we put quality of movement and musicality before the number of figures.

01

Embrace and axis

A comfortable connection, in open or close embrace depending on the figure, and a shared balance.

02

A flowing walk

Direction, step length, expressive pauses and moving along the line of dance.

03

Ochos and turn

Dissociation without forcing the knees, forward and back ochos, and a clean turn in both directions.

04

Musicality and dance floor codes

Pulse, phrasing and accents; tango, milonga and vals; the mirada, the cabeceo and how to navigate without collisions.

How we work in our tango classes for beginners

Step by step, with clear goals in each session and individual follow-up. You dance to the beat from the first class, instead of memorising figures. Corrections are adapted to each student’s body, in a friendly, pressure-free atmosphere.

You progress at your own pace

The programme is flexible: we put quality of movement and musicality before the number of figures. The group is small, which allows us to correct each student and rotate partners so that you learn to dance with everyone.

Introduction to tango in Alicante, Elche and El Campello

In Alicante, the starter and beginners group (levels 0 and 1) meets on Fridays from 19:00 to 20:00, in the city centre. It started on 25 September and you can join at any class. If you live to the south, Elche has a free open class on Thursday 12 November and a group on Thursdays at 19:30 from the 19th. If you live to the north, the El Campello open class is on Wednesday 11 and the group starts on Wednesday 18 at 19:00.

About Luciano Blanco

An Argentine teacher with twenty years of experience, trained with the old masters. His approach is both technical and human, designed for social tango: so that you enjoy dancing at the milonga.

Questions

Questions before your first tango class in Alicante

Can’t find your answer? Write to us or call us, we reply the same day.

Do I need previous experience?

No. The Friday group at 19:00 brings together starters and beginners and begins from lesson one. If you already dance, we do a short assessment and guide you.

Do I have to come with a partner?

No. In class we rotate partners so that everyone practises. If you come with someone, that is perfect too, but it is not a requirement to start.

What clothes and shoes should I bring?

Comfortable clothes that let you move. Ideally, shoes that hold your foot well and slide, preferably with a leather sole; to start with, comfortable shoes without non-slip rubber will do.

Can I join at any time?

Yes. The group started on 25 September and you can join any Friday, without waiting for a new term. In November, new couples who start together on Friday 6 get the 2×1 in their first month; if you come later, the 2×1 returns on the first Friday of the following month.

What language are the classes in?

In Spanish, French and English: tell us when you book which language you are most comfortable in.

Are there starter classes in Elche?

Yes: a free open class on Thursday 12 November, from 19:30 to 20:30, and a group on Thursdays at 19:30 from 19 November.
